Conversion To Digital

Troubles Digitizing Information

Digitizing information makes for much easier handling.  There are certain tradeoffs though.  In analog information there is an infinite number of samples.  When you go digital, as in the case of music or video, you must choose the sampling rate that will give you the best combination of size and quality.  The sampling rates you choose with define the accuracy of the information.  It will also determine the quality of the playback.  There is also the concern of the size of the file.  You can get great replay with a high sampling rate, but this also increases the size of the file.  As we have also seen what program you are using will also be a factor in the file size.  Some programs include much more information that you don’t even realize is in the file.
We use digital media everyday in our lives.  I use MP3 audio files every day in my car, at home, and yes at school.  Video files are also part of my life.  You Tube has an abundance of intriguing videos.  I also use digital information when making text documents just like this one I am writing now.
It would be almost impossible to imagine a world without digital media.  There are many interesting choices when using digital media though.  Some are not so relevant anymore, such as file size.  We will have to make the right choice of conversion to digital media to suit our own needs.

  1. I think that those are very good points. For the youtube videos, can you select different playback options though? Just curious... :)
